Events by continent

Europe is the continent that has hosted the final phase of the World Cup most times. Specifically, the "Old Continent" (UEFA) has organized 11 World Cup finals, followed by South America (CONMEBOL) with five events, Central America (CONCACAF) with three, Asia (AFC) with two and Africa ( CAF) with just one, that of 2010 when the World Cup was held in South Africa.


Spectators, matches, attendance records

The World Cup from the first day of its holding gathered the interest of the sports fan world. Almost a century later, the results prove that the World Cup is one of the most important sports events in the history of sports! From the first World Cup in 1930, until 2018, 40,532,478 fans have attended the stadiums in Russia, having played 900 matches. The average attendance for a match is 45,036 fans, while the record attendance was held in the 1950 final at the Maracana in Brazil, where the match between Brazil and Uruguay was attended by 173,850 spectators.


More World Cup appearances

Four are the footballers in the history of the World Cup with the most appearances. Specifically, Miroslav Klose with Germany (2002-2014), Antonio Carbajal with Mexico (1950-1966), Rafa Marquez again with Mexico (2002-2018) and Lothar Mathews with Germany (1998-2006) have competed in five World Cup finals.


Top scorers

At the top with most goals in World Cup history is Miroslav Klose. The German striker after the first in the category with the most participations in the final stages, is this time alone at the top with the most goals, as he scored 16 goals, passing the Brazilian Ronaldo by one goal, as the "phenomenon" had scored 15 times. The trio is completed by the great Gerd Müller, with the German finding the net on 14 occasions, two short of first place and just one goal short of second.
